Our Client based in Erith is seeking a Purchasing Assistant. The Purchasing Assistant role is offered as a permanent position (office based) position working Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5pm.  The role is working as part of a busy team (4), reporting directly to the Purchasing Manager.

Required Work Experience:

  • Suitable background as a purchasing assistant within a diverse worldwide supply environment.
  • Proven experience of successfully assisting with supplier / commercial improvements.
  • Proven experience of buying, with evidence of cost savings achieved.


Required skills:

  • Excellent computer skills:  MS Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Good knowledge of MRP, ideally in slim4 and SAP.
  • Excellent communications skills both verbal and written. 
  • High comfort level working in a diverse environment.


The Purchasing Assistant is responsible for maintaining internal databases (SAP and slim4, Commodity Codes, COO, discontinuation, price books, etc). To conduct market research to identify price trends, prepare spend analyses, analyse and present resource data and ensure timely completion, compile data relating to supplier performance to enable evaluation, produce and maintain reports for the wider business.


Also, the Purchasing Assistant is required to analyse and initiate projects for continuous improvement with suppliers and internal process improvement to achieve greater output.


Working closely with other purchasing team members and manage internal stakeholders with the operations team, quality team, Hong Kong office, the sales team and other office staff.



  • Build relationships with suppliers in region of responsibility through negotiation and ensuring on time delivery.
  • Effective communication with the company’s Hong Kong office, with regards to supplier management.  
  • Assist the Purchasing Manager to develop a high-performance supply chain, that meets or exceeds company strategic aims. 
  • Maintain and performing administrative purchasing tasks to update and maintain records and databases.
  • Maintain effective communications between the external Hong Kong supply chain office team, quality team, operations team, finance and other internal company functions.
